FUN new "Pet Rock" Inspired Rings got NOTICED By The Museum of Alternative Jewelry!!!

These rings were inspired, not just, by the "Pet Rock" fad of the 70s... a friend and fellow artist requested a ring made from her "lucky pebble" a few years ago.  It was an oddly shaped stone and she did not want it cut into a cab.  So... after many design failures, I came up with this design.

The cable tie downs are spun from fine silver wire... a technique I learned from my mentor, Harold O'Connor, in his "Alternative Stone Setting"  workshop in Telluride, CO.

Pebbles in my pockets... whenever I hike along the mountain streams and rivers here, in SW Colorado, or comb the beaches of my favorite destinations in the world, I collect pebbles of all colors and shapes!  This human tendency to collect something so primal and raw, fascinates me - to no end... and then to anthropomorphize it - or have palpable emotional attachments tied to such an object (or any object, for that matter). I'm a psychology geek at heart and this facet of collecting material objects, and immaterial objects, makes me wonder if it is a residual hunter/gatherer tendency, that is satisfied by collecting (pebbles, art, cars, anything...)!

Keep on collecting, if it fills your spirit with joy and satisfaction, like it does for me!
